University of Madeira Collaboration Agreement

2 March 2026 · Colégio dos Jesuítas, Funchal

The University of Madeira and VastBlue Innovations, Lda. signed a collaboration agreement on 2 March at 3pm at the Colégio dos Jesuítas, aimed at bringing applied research and professional training closer to students of the Bachelor's degree in Physical and Computational Engineering. VastBlue develops artificial intelligence solutions centred on multi-agent platforms, sensor data ingestion and structuring, and the development of predictive models for industrial applications. These areas align directly with the Physical and Computational Engineering programme, particularly in modelling, scientific computing, and the integration of physical and sensor systems, favouring the practical application of knowledge acquired by students.

The agreement provides for, among other points, annual presentations by VastBlue to students, the proposal by VastBlue of final-year projects compatible with the programme's requirements — which may be carried out as internships within the company — as well as rules on data protection, intellectual property, and confidentiality. This strategic partnership aims to strengthen the link between academia and industry and create real opportunities for technological co-creation and labour market entry for Physical and Computational Engineering students.

This agreement also comes in the context of Europe's renewed reindustrialisation cycle, in which factories, energy networks, and supply chains will increasingly incorporate intelligent systems. The Bachelor's degree in Physical and Computational Engineering has as its mission to train engineers with a profile that integrates knowledge of physics, computing, and artificial intelligence. This agreement represents an instrument to articulate that training with the productive sector, ensuring that the profile of graduates is valued and applied in an industrial context.
